Software and Support for Clean Water Charity

Every year we set aside time to dedicate and donate to the charities who reach out to us.

Providing software architecture advice, technical training or complete mini projects as part of our aim toward philanthropic contributions.

Many of the individuals who work for Formus Pro hold charity work close their hearts and continue to volunteer or raise money for their chosen charities.

Our work with Frank Water

Part of our work with Frank Water involved designing and building a water supply feasibility app. It’s an application which works on any device, so it can be used on a mobile phone, for example, in the area you are investigating. The app consists of a questionnaire designed to provide as much information as possible about water sources in a particular area, so that a decision can be made as to whether it is feasible to set up a clean water source.

Questions relate to geographical conditions, population density and estimated demand for water; whether the local community can help with construction; how the water will be used, for example in agriculture, schools or domestic consumption. Once all the answers have been entered, a report is produced which can be saved in the Microsoft Dataverse.

From the reports, it’s possible to establish whether the water available at a site is able to meet demands and how water resources can be managed sustainably. Reports also provide the foundation for NGOs, local government and local people to present proposals for a water supply project.

The app is a great example of how cloud-based technology is helping the Frank Water charity improve the lives of the more than 80 million people in India and Nepal who don’t have access to safe water.

Supporting the cause

Every year the charity Frank Water (link: Frank Water Bristol. A Charity Funding Clean Water in India & Nepal) holds its Stand Up for Safe Water paddleboarding tournament in association with SUP Bristol, (Link: Award winning stand up paddleboarding adventures - SUP Bristol) at Bristol’s harbour side. The charity works across India and Nepal improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

This year, in September, the intrepid members of Formus Professional Software took to their paddleboards to raise money for Frank Water.

Few, if any of us, had been on a paddleboard before, so prior to the main event we enjoyed some basic training provided by the instructors at SUP Bristol.

After that it was on to the racing:

“Twenty teams competed in what turned out to be some incredible paddleboarding, close races and great camaraderie! We were so lucky to catch the end of the summer sunshine, to mix in-person and to enjoy it all on the beautiful historic Bristol harbour. We raised a brilliant £9,415.23 through this event and all your incredible fundraising!”

Lizzie Archer, Corporate Partnerships Executive, Frank Water

Thanks to their efforts, the Formus Pro teams raised an impressive £1,000 for Frank Waters, and for some of us it marked the start of a new interest:

“I hadn’t paddle boarded before, so I was surprised when I managed without falling off! Although I was one of the slower members of the group, I felt a great sense of achievement in having a go; so much so, that I am considering buying my own board to get in some speed practice for next year!”
