What Is A Release Wave?

It’s that time of year again, where we go over the most recent release wave that Microsoft have just announced. For those of you that don’t know, a Microsoft release wave happens twice a year, where Microsoft release new features, integrations and updates to the Microsoft Technology Stack to further enhance and improve the functionality available to their users.

These updates come scattered through out the year, so the systems will be continuously evolving and allowing you to get the most out of the investment you made in your technology.

We’ll now look a little deeper into some of the updates being made the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Project Operations.

Overview Of Project Operations

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Project Operations is the umbrella tool connecting your sales, resourcing, project management and finance teams on a single application.

You’ll be able to leverage D365 Project Operations to accelerate your project delivery, maximize profitability and win more deals, massively enhancing your bottom line of the business.

Having all of this in one single application is massively beneficial, and with further enhancements coming in the upcoming months, will be making this toolset even better.

What To Expect & When

This release wave is broken down into two topics of focus, Copilot in project Operations and Optimizing Project operations. 

Copilot In Project Operations

In September 2025, you’ll be able to optimize your processes with agent-led time, expense and approvals, while optimizing the use of Copilot. Through leveraging the automation of Copilot, you’ll easily be able to detect work in Outlook and Teams meetings and allow an automated creation and submission of entries.

Optimize Project Operations

By far the lengthiest Wave 1 release update comes to optimizing Project operations, with general availability ranging from June 2025 all the way through to March 2026. With 27 individual updates & enhancements to the system to further enhance the existing features available, there’s certainly something you can leverage to optimize your day to day operations.
