New Membership Organisation Launched By Stop Social Housing Stigma

Stop Social Housing Stigma has launched a Membership Organisation

SSHS or Stop Social Housing Stigma, have announced they recently launched a Membership Organisation and are now actively recruiting for members.

The new group is free to join and open to any individuals or organisations in the social housing sector.

As part of the announcement, SSHS confirmed all members will receive quarterly bulletins about the campaigns work and achievements, as well as information, guides and advice on how to help the campaign in their local area.

Members will also be offered the opportunity to send in both positive and negative stories of social housing tenants to be shared with the wider base.

SSHS wants housing staff, contractors and others to show solidarity and support for social housing tenants by signing up as supporter members as well as landlords, contractors and other organisations to sign up corporately and to encourage tenants to join. The main reason to join the campaign is so that tenants, landlords, contractors and everyone else can stand together to present a positive image of social housing and its tenants and to challenge the stigma attached to social housing.”

Nic Bliss – Campaign Director, SSHS

Nic Bliss was appointed to the newly created roe of campaign director within SSHS in March ’24 and was tasked with growing the membership arm of the group.

“Social housing stigma was the key issue raised by tenants in the post-Grenfell ministerial roadshows. It works in many ways and it leads to many negative consequences for existing tenants and for campaigns to build more social homes. We all need to work together to tackle it.”

Lynne Bronson – Chair, SSHS

About SSHS: Stop Social Housing Stigma has existed since 2017 and is run by tenants with the support of a number of housing associations from across the UK.
