However, that’s only one part of the picture.

The real opportunity comes when Copilot can work with the wider Microsoft ecosystem, helping staff move beyond creating content and towards using the university’s existing knowledge more effectively.

Rather than acting as a standalone AI assistant, Copilot becomes part of the way people work across the organisation.

Ultimately, Microsoft Copilot reflects the quality of the information it’s given access to. The stronger the university’s knowledge management, the more valuable Copilot becomes for every department that relies on it.

That All Sounds Great. But What About Security?

No matter how valuable Microsoft Copilot could be, universities can’t afford to compromise on security or governance.

Student records, financial information, research projects and HR data all require careful management, whilst staff need confidence that introducing AI won’t expose sensitive information or create unnecessary risk.

The good news is that adopting Microsoft Copilot doesn’t mean abandoning the security measures your university already relies on.
