Release Wave 1 2025: D365 Finance & Operations

Finance and Operations cross-app capabilities are just around the corner as the details for the release wave 1 for 2025 has been released.

What Is A Release Wave?

A release wave is the time of year where Microsoft announce what their major planned updates to their technology stack includes. This release wave is the first of 2025 and marks the first few updates being seen in the market.

The release wave will mean something different for each solution, as the updates will vary depending on the existing capabilities of the solution. These updates can vary from additional functionality to more in-depth integrations and a lot more in between.

In this article we will be looking at Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and what the release wave has to offer.

Overview Of Finance & Operations

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations is the umbrella to all the finance and operations applications such as D365 Finance, D365 Supply Chain management, D365 Commerce, D365 Human Resources and D365 Project operations. This platform is continually evolving to provide the technological requirements to meet the ever-growing needs of the market.

What To Expect & When

This release wave is broken down into two topics of focus, where the release wave will invest in updates to boost productivity with Copilot and enhance the one Dynamics platform ideology to ensure you have access to all the apps you need in one place.

Boost Productivity with Copilot

You’ll be able to ask questions about your ERP data in natural language, through adding Dataverse Virtual tables for Finance and Operations apps as knowledge sources, the answers provided will be directly sources form your enterprise data, giving you tailored responses to the questions asked. This will be available in public preview in April, with general availability being available from October 2025.

One Dynamics One Platform

In October 2024, Microsoft released the ability to enable support for asynchronous operation in dual-write functionality to public preview, and this will be released to general availability in April 2025. This allows you to have data movement across your applications. By creating and updating operations in asynchronous mode, you’ll be able to avoid session timeout problems and delays that can occur.

In April 2025 you’ll have access to the public preview (or wait until general availability in October 2025) to get offline support for finance and operations with Virtual Tables. As there are often many users in the field, being able to access the system in offline mode is essential, so with this release wave, we’ll see mobile Power Apps have the use in the field in areas where there is weak / no internet connection, Apps will work against the data locally when offline and sync data changes in the applications when they’re back online.

If you want to learn more about how this wave update will affect you and your organisation or perhaps want to broaden your horizons with the Microsoft Technology stack, then please feel free to get in touch and we will assist you in any way we can.
